Home Remedies for Colitis and How to Cure It

Colitides or Colitis is a health problem related with the inflammation of colon. This is included in the list of disorders related with digestive health.  Colitis that is persistent can be very troublesome sometimes. In simpler words, we can take it as an inflammatory bowel disorder that result in inflammation and other symptoms like ulcers and sores in the digestive tract.  Colitis can result in a debilitating kind of effect.  Colitis can be ulcerative or inflammatory but in both the senses, it affects a person in equal amounts. Living with colitis can result in many complications. This can range from diarrhoea to bleeding and from severe dehydration to bone loss, liver diseases and inflammation of skin. If you are suffering from colitis, you can bring the following remedies in use to cure yourself against colitis:-

1. Avoid food items that make Colitis worse:-
There are some food items like nuts, seeds, and whole grains etc. which are rich in the content of fibres. Fibre is hard to digest and thus we should not eat these food items at all. We should also avoid fibre rich fruits and vegetables as well. If you are habitual of consuming carbonated beverages or drinks, such products should also be avoided. You should avoid caffeine rich products and processed food items as well.

2. Have a Diet Rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids:-
There is a content called Eicosapentaenoic acid present in omega-3 fatty acids which proves very effective against inflammation. Products like fish oil, flax seeds, chia seeds etc. are rich in the content of Omega-3 fatty acids. These products have no side effects. It is also effective against bowel movements and inflammation. Exercise regularly to keep yourself away from stress. It has been reported by experts that emotional stress is very strongly related with colitis. We should adopt aerobics, yoga, meditation and other such similar kind of approaches to relieve ourselves against such problems.

3. Consume Probiotic Drinks to Keep Your Digestive Tract Healthy:-
Probiotic drinks contain the bacteria that support the ability of an individual’s body to absorb nutrients and to fight infections. Probiotic bacteria crowd out the bad bacteria from human stomach and prevent problems like irritation and inflammation of stomach. Probiotic drinks also improve the immunity of your digestive system and make you fight problems like Colitis in a better way.

4. Eat Food Items Rich in the Content of Iron:-
Ulcerative colitis occurs the most because of anaemia. Anaemia is a disorder that occurs because of deficiency of iron in a person. Iron rather also improves your well being, energy and immunity. It improves your metabolism and function of your enzymes. You should consume the products like liver, beef, navy beens, spinach etc. to cope up with this deficiency of iron. This will help you fight colitis and to struggle ulcerative colitis in a better way.

5.  Consume Food Items Rich in the Content of Folate:-
People suffering from the problem of ulcerative colitis find folate to be a boon for them.  This helps the body make new cells and to enhance the repair of pre-existing cells. A deficiency of folate also results in anaemia and as we have mentioned it earlier, anaemia is one of the key factors that invite ulcerative colitis; we should keep consuming food items rich in the content of folate regularly.  This also improves your immunity and digestion as well.

6. Turmeric to Control Inflammation and To Enhance Repair:-
Turmeric is generally assumed to be not more than a kitchen spice or food colouring agent but actually, it is much more than that.  Turmeric is rich in the content of curcumin which is one of the best ingredients to cure inflammation. It is one of the best anti-inflammatory agents as well. You can consume it daily after adding it in warm milk to cure yourself against digestive problems. Bosweilla, Bromelain, Gingko Biloba, Psyllium seed & husk etc. are some other natural herbs which can be used in this direction.

7. Consume Maximum Amount of Fluids:-
Colitis can sometimes make your body dehydrated so much. Ulcerative colitis makes you experience dehydration and to cope up with this body condition, you should consume maximum amount of fluids every day. Consuming fluids like alcohol or products rich in the content of caffeine can make your condition even worse. You should thus avoid consuming such drinks besides consuming a maximum volume of water every day.

8. Give Yourself an Abdomen Massage daily:-
You can use essential oils like peppermint oil, fennel seed oil, ginger oil and other such essential oils to reduce your chances of experiencing ulcerative colitis or inflammation because of colitis.  A mix of these essential oils with water if massaged on the abdomen has the power to cure colitis permanently. You should practice massaging your abdomen daily with these essential oils to cure yourself against any kind of colitis.

9. Use Acupuncture Therapy to Treat Inflammation:-
Acupuncture therapy has been bought in use since ages in Chinese and especially Asian area to treat inflammatory bowel diseases. You can also use this therapy to cure yourself against colitis and other such inflammatory problems. If problems still persist, you can talk with a professional health expert. Similarly, aroma therapy with essential oils also proves fruitful in most of the cases.

10. Eat Small and Frequent Meals:-
Try eating four to five frequent meals every day. Keep your meals frequent but small. Our digestive system can deal easily with small amounts of food. Cramping is one of the most common ulcerative problems and it can be easily cured if we follow this kind of diet plan.  Consuming small amounts of food reduces pain and reduces the chances of human body to experience inflammation.
