10 Best Home Remedies for Migraines and Headaches

How to Cure Migraine with Simple Home Remedies
Migraine is a disorder related with headache. These headaches occur again and again. The intensity can be from moderate to severe. A patient of migraine often reports this pain in half of his head. This pain is pulsating in nature and it can last from two to three days. Some people are sensitive to light, sound, smell or other such factors when they suffer migraine. This pain is made worse with physical activity. A migraine can result because of a variety of factors.  It can result because of genetic or hormonal factors. Globally, more than 15% of people are affected by this kind of headache. If you are also one of those people, then these remedies will benefit you for sure:-

1. Ice to Alleviate Migraine Pain:-
Migraine pain sometimes gets unbearable. In such a time, you can depend and rely on ice treatment for curing yourself. Just take some ice cubes, wrap them in a cotton cloth and rub the piece of cloth against your forehead or the area where you feel pain. Ice will alleviate all the pain you have and you will soon feel relieved against migraine.

2. Fragrance Therapy to distract your attention from pain:-
This therapy is also called ‘Aroma Therapy’. This therapy includes the usage of essential oils like lavender oil and peppermint oil etc. to divert and distract a person’s attention from the pain he/she has. These oils can also be added to hot water to use it as a hot compress therapy. Both cold and hot compress techniques are equally beneficial against migraine. Acupuncture therapy can also prove beneficial in some cases.

3. Organic Apple Cider Vinegar:-
Add 1tbsp apple cider vinegar to one glass of water and add one tbsp honey to it. Drink it as a detoxifying Migraine relief tonic.  Drink this tonic every time you feel migraine troubling you. The amount of vinegar in water depends on the severity and persistence of migraine. Consuming a fruit like apple might also prove helpful in some cases.

4. Peppermint to Calm down the Pain of Migraine:-
Peppermint has an anti-inflammatory nature. It is an ideal cure for migraine. Peppermint calms down the pain of migraine by providing an anti-inflammatory kind of effect. You can also consume peppermint in the form of tea.  Peppermint oil can be used in aroma/fragrance therapy and hot compress therapy as well.

5. Lemon Tea and Chamomile Tea:-

Chamomile tea has anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties in it. It rather has a soothing kind of effect against migraine. Lemon tea is also an other such beneficial tea which proves helpful against migraine attacks. Drink one of these teas on regular basis to treat yourself against migraine. Add honey in place of sugar to treat it more quickly.

6. Enclose Yourself in Dark for Some Time:-
I have told you in the beginning that migraine is sometimes accompanied with sensitivity to light, sound and smell. People in such a time should enclose themselves in their room with all lights switched off as else it will increase their pain. There should be pin drop silence in their room. In such a time, we advise you to lick ginger juice mixed in honey while lying on your bed sheet.

7. Willow Tree Bark as a Natural Pain Killer:-
Willow is called nature’s natural pain killer. Because of the same reason, it is used in making several pain relief medications also. You can use the extract out of willow tree bark after mixing it in ginger juice and honey. Consume this mixture daily to avoid chances of developing migraine again.

8. Cayenne Pepper to Kill Pain:-
The Capsaicin compound found in Cayenne pepper acts as a natural pain killer for you when you are suffering from migraine. Cayenne pepper stimulates blood circulation and improves flow of blood in your veins.  Just One teaspoon of cayenne pepper mixed in honey or ginger juice consumed twice a day can easily treat you against migraine.

9. Adopt Herbal Treatment If No Treatment Option Works:-
Consume some coriander juice or leaves to relieve yourself against migraine pain. If the pain still persists, make a cup of herbal tea for yourself with Feverfew. Feverfew is a name used since ages in the field of pain removal.  The ‘parthenolide’ compound present in this herb prevents inflammation of the muscle tissues and relieves you against pain of migraine. You should consume a cup of feverfew tea every day to become immune against migraine.

10. Keep your head dipped in water for sometime:-
Fill a bucket completely with water and dip your head in water for some time. Splash up your eyes with the same water multiple times to get additional relief. Slice a lemon into two halves and sprinkle some common salt or honey over it. Lick this slice of lemon for a few minutes afterwards.

11. Have a Cup of Coffee Immediately:-
Most of us avoid consuming coffee because of the fact that it is rich in caffeine. But the same fact becomes a life saving fact when we come to know that coffee is an effective home remedy against migraine. The caffeine content in coffee restricts blood vessels and blocks certain receptors that have been found the main pain causing factor in a majority of migraine aches. Thus whenever you experience a migraine ache, just ask your room mate or a family member to bring you a cup of coffee.

12. Have a Head Massage:-
If yours is a joint family, just ask one of your family members to give you a head massage. If you have a roommate, you can ask him/her to do that. If you live alone, you can call a professional massage therapist for this purpose. If you have no option but to do it yourself, just pour some sesame oil on your arm and massage your forehead with it. It is better if the oil is Luke warm when you massage your head with it. While massaging, move your fingers in clockwise and counter clockwise direction again and again. You can also use other such essential oils for this purpose. If nothing works, try to massage and press several pressure points on your body.
