Natural Home Remedies for Tonsillitis:-
Tonsillitis refers to the inflammation of the tonsils or lymph nodes located on both sides of the throat. Tonsillitis is very commonly seen in children and it can appear in them as an infection in mild, moderate or severe degrees. Tonsillitis is often accompanied by conditions like sore throat, fever, swollen tonsil glands, difficulty in swallowing and other such conditions including bad breath, runny nose and fever. Tonsils are better if treated immediately or else they can spread from one person to the other. We can easily treat tonsillitis in children with simple home based remedies some of which have been explained by us here in this article:-
1. Gargle with salt water:-
Gargling with salt water is one of the most olden ways of treating tonsillitis. Just take some warm (Not boiled) water in a glass and add a teaspoon of salt in it. Now dissolve the salt and do multiple gargles with this water. The salt in the water will kill the virus or bacteria that have resulted in tonsillitis and soon you will get cured against it. If there is any kind of inflammation accompanied, you will get relieved against it as well. Remember not to swallow the water. Just spit it out immediately after gargling.
2. Lemonade or Lemon juice remedy:-
Lemon is not just a cleanser but it is a great disinfectant as well. Lemon has the property to make you resistant to infections and to relieve you against inflammation. Because of the same reason, we can use lemon juice as a remedy against tonsillitis. Just take some Luke warm water and add some lemon juice in it along with a pinch of salt and honey in it. Drink this lemon juice slowly and it will relieve you against infection and inflammation caused by the infection. The same kind of effect can be achieved by drinking lemonade (Mojito) or shikanjee. If all the ingredients are not available, simply slice a lemon; sprinkle a pinch of salt over it and start licking. It will be equally beneficial for you.
3. Take the Slippery Elm Potion: –
Slippery Elm has ‘Mucilage’ which a gel like substance that has the power to heal inflammation accompanied with Tonsillitis. It provides a healing kind of effect and soothes you against tonsillitis. If you are suffering from this condition, just take a glass of water and add some slippery elm bark to it. Bring the water to boil and then drink it slowly once the water gets cooled down. This will relieve you quickly against tonsillitis.
4. Don’t Forget To Give Some Rest To Your Body: –
Taking plenty of rest speeds up the process of healing. Thus you should take proper sleep and rest so as to promote the process of healing. The less stress you take; the more it enhances the process of healing and thus you should take enough rest to cure yourself against tonsillitis. Remember to sleep well; to reduce the level of stress from your life and to take proper rest during the night.
5. Have some Basil juice/extract:-
Basil is not harmful at all. It is one of the most holy plants in Indian culture because of its medicinal properties. Basil is one of the oldest home remedies for Tonsillitis. The anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties in it make it an awesome healer for tonsillitis. You can chew the basil leaves directly or you can extract its juice to mix it with honey. The juice mixed with honey can later on be consumed like a medicine twice or thrice a day.
6. Turmeric as a Magic Spice:-
Though most of us take turmeric as a mere kitchen spice or a coloring agent, yet it is marvelously rich in antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties which make it a working remedy against tonsillitis infection. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric also works well in curing the inflammation and irritation that results because of Tonsillitis. To cure tonsillitis with turmeric, just add a teaspoon of turmeric powder to hot water or milk and drink it up. Do this at least twice a day and you will soon feel relieved against tonsillitis.
7. Drink Something Too Cool Or Hot:-
Drinking something cold like juice/smoothie or shake or consuming an ice cream might make some benefit against inflammation and swelling. Similarly, consuming something hot like coffee, warm water etc. might also make a similar kind of benefit. This will ease the throat against the discomfort and swelling it has experienced. Remember that the liquid you consume should not be boiled and instead the temperature should be bearable.
8. Try using a humidifier:-
Humidifiers moisten the air inside your room to relieve you against the discomfort and pain you are experiencing in your throat and mouth. Breathing dry air on the other hand might increase this discomfort. By breathing clean and moist air, your air passages get relieved and the swelling also gets reduced with time.
9. Consume a nutrient dense diet:-
The best way to keep yourself away from any kind of infections, inflammation and other such problems is to consume a nutrient dense diet. This will make you immune against many such problems. A nutrient dense diet is rather also less rich in harmful toxins, bacteria and other such factors which result in infections.
10. Use Cinnamon as a remedy:-‘Cinnamon’ or ‘Dal Cheeni’ can be used as a working remedy against tonsillitis. Cinnamon when added to boiling milk in powdered form turns it to a decoction which is highly rich in antimicrobial properties. Cinnamon also inhibits the growth of infection causing factors in the human body and helps in reducing pain, swelling and inflammation. If milk is not available, you can mix a teaspoon of cinnamon powder in boiled water added with some sugar or honey and you can drink it up once the temperature becomes bearable for your mouth. Remember to sip this water slowly remembering that you have to sip it when it is still warm. You don’t have to keep the water untouched for a prolonged time or else it might get cooled.
